Recovery starts with you...

Believe it or not, the person who can help save Tomah is the one you see in the mirror every day.  Local heroes can be identified by one shopping decision at a time.  It will take time for Tomah to recover...this isn't an overnight fix, so plan to be in this for the long haul.

What can you do now?

  • Take the pledge to support our local businesses and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to as well.

  • Look for ways to support local.

  • Communicate the importance of tourism to our region.  Sponsor local events that bring in overnight room stays and visitors.  Invite family or friends to visit!

  • Leave positive reviews of your favorite local business.  Be positive and supportive in your approach to social media.

  • Offer ideas and suggestions to community members to offer support throughout the stages of recovery. Just because a business is able to open back up does not mean they are able to recover quickly.

  • Purchase gift certificates from local businesses and use them as gifts over the course of the next year.

  • Think of ways you can support your local non-profit and service organizations.

  • Think about each time you asked a business to donate to your fundraiser, child's sports team or your project.  Think of ways you can support that business now.

  • Mail in or find online ways to pay your regular mission offerings to your church or donations to your favorite charities.

  • Take an online class to hone your skills or develop new ones, many are free right now!

What can you do in the coming months to support local businesses?

  • Continue to remember your pledge and shift your spending to local businesses.

  • Reschedule your hair, nail, massage, dentist or eye doctor appointment.

  • Renew your gym membership.

  • Be understanding of businesses as they open back up.  There are likely new procedures, best practices, new staff and many kinks to be worked out in the coming months.

  • Start your Christmas shopping early.
