Fort McCoy Founded in 1909, this U.S. Army installation is located just minutes west of the city of Tomah. Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin, as well as the only Army facility in the upper Midwest.
Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is a vital link in the National Wildlife Refuge System in providing important services to wildlife, people, and the habitats which support them. In addition to fulfilling its role as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife, Necedah Wildlife Refuge is also responsible for preserving a natural diversity and abundance of fauna and flora, and provides opportunities for people to enjoy and learn about our natural world through such wildlife-compatible activities as hiking, hunting, fishing, and attending educational and interpretive programs.

Bike Trails The Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail which has three old railroad tunnels along it is only minutes from the Tomah area. Bring your flashlight!
Parks/Aquatic Center You will find more than 200 acres of green space in one of our ten family-friendly parks. You can also walk the Tomah Recreation Trail which stretches from Veteran’s Park to Butts Park. Bring your walking shoes and your swimming suit! Be sure to check out our new Aquatic Center in Buckley Park.

Winter Activities You will find 270 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Monroe County. Just minutes from Tomah you can experience Whitetail Ridge Recreation Area for downhill & cross-county skiing, tubing and snowboarding.
