Lake Tomah at Sunset

Lake Tomah

The 200 acre body of water is the jewel of Tomah's outdoor facilities. Located off Butts Avenue and Parkview Drive on our west side, it's the perfect spot for boating, water-skiing and fishing. Two city parks, Winnebago and Lake Tomah, line its shores, with public docking facilities at each park. Sunsets over Lake Tomah are a sight to behold. Some of the fish you will find in Lake Tomah are Northern, Bluegills, Perch, Crappies, Sunfish, Bass and Bullheads.

The Tomah area offers a number of excellent hunting and fishing areas. Please note all posted lands and ask permission BEFORE accessing property. For more information on specific regulations, etc., call the Wisconsin DNR at 608-266-2621. Or visit the DNR website.
Lake Tomah Management Plan – a strategy to improve the recreational use & ecological value of Lake Tomah by restoring and improving the fishery and aquatic life of Lake Tomah by establishing a self-sustaining sport fishery.

The restocking of sport fish will begin in the spring of 2010 following the fall 2009 rotenone treatment. Fish species which will be stocked post-treatment include northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappie, and bluegill. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will obtain fry of each species from the Genoa Federal Fish Hatchery to stock in spring post-treatment. Adult bluegill and black crappie may be obtained to supplement this initial stocking. Forage (minnow) species may be stocked based on species found upstream in the watershed. Stocked fish should provide anglers a fishery within 3 to 4 years post treatment. However, protection from harvest is essential in order to produce a natural reproducing fish community. After stocking, restrictive size and bag limits will be proposed via the Spring Conservation Congress Hearings in order to protect fish from harvest. Proposed size and bag limits include: northern pike, 32 inch minimum length and a daily bag of one fish, largemouth bass, 18 inch minimum length limit with a daily bag of one fish, panfish, no minimum size limit with a daily bag of 10 fish. This protection will allow fish to grow to adulthood, reproduce, and maintain a healthy fish community without the need for additional stocking into the future. In addition, these protective size and bag limits will allow for a quality fishing experience, allowing harvest of some fish.
